How to Flip Your Closet

Living an organized life is all about thoughtful decisions prioritizing what’s most important to you! That doesn’t mean you can’t have it all - it just means it might not be possible to have it all at the same time!
No matter how big or small your closet is, it probably makes sense to separate your wardrobe by season - here's a few key things to keep in mind...

If you want access to your swimsuits when it’s time to get a suntan, it may mean that your beach gear needs to live somewhere else during the winter months.
If you want to be able to find “that dress” for the party you got invited to, it may mean that your dressy dresses live separately from your jeans collection.
If you can envision the perfect earrings for that special outfit, it may mean that your everyday jewelry lives in a different drawer than your fancy baubles.
I’m not saying you need to have completely separate spaces for your wardrobe but I am saying that there needs to be some thoughtful choices about how often you use certain items in your closet.
The everyday items get the prime real estate - eye level, front of the hanging space, easy to reach - while the pieces you grab less frequently go way up high or way down low.
You could totally move certain pieces to a separate space - think guest closet, storage bin (labeled of course), under the bed - you just need to set a reminder to switch things over when it’s time.

Swimsuits replace winter coats.
Denim shorts replace jeans.
Tank tops replace chunky sweaters.
To get the process started here's a few tips:
- You’ll need to take a look at your entire closet inventory. Decide what fits your body and your current style. Donate the pieces that aren’t comfortable or that you avoid when you’re deciding what to wear for the day.
- As you’re getting things separated you can think about what you wear often versus what you wear for special circumstances.
- Create work areas to keep your stacks separate and use sticky notes to help you remind you where things are going to end up.
When all the items in your wardrobe are on the same hangers and folded the same way, the switch over is pretty seamless. And, the real bonus is, everything feels new again because you haven’t seen it in a few months!!
Be prepared to enjoy all the extra time you'll magically have when you're getting ready on the daily, packing for a vacay, or just admiring your beautifully organized closet!
